It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great- Grandmother Melida Rodriguez. She peacefully entered into eternal rest with our Lord on Monday February 10, 2025, in Houston, TX. She was born on April 14, 1926, in Montemorelos, N.L. Mexico to Florentino and Manuela Rodriguez. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 50 years, Adauto Rodriguez, as well as several siblings. She was 98 years old and looking forward to celebrating her 99th birthday in 8 weeks. She loved birthdays and mariachis, and her favorite song was “Amor Eterno.” We were truly blessed that our wonderful mom left us many priceless memories. She was not just our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was our guiding light, our source of unconditional love and support, and a faithful servant to Jesus Christ. Her love, devotion and hard work were a constant force that shaped us through life’s joys and challenges.
Mom was the second oldest of eleven siblings. She lived a very modest life in Mexico. She went to school for a few years and learned some reading, writing and arithmetic. However, being that she knew the basics, she was assigned to a country school at the early age of 14 or 15 years old to tutor the children with the little that she knew. She was also a very good store clerk where calculators did not even come into the picture. In order to be hired, she recounts that the store owner gave her a list of over 20 items to add, and since she got it all correct, she was hired to assist in the neighborhood store. She kept herself busy helping her devoted husband by sewing for the neighborhood friends and selling cosmetics as well as doing any other odd job to generate money to make ends meet.
She leaves a legacy of nine children: Maria C. Rodriguez (Alejandro), Javier (Monica), Rosa (Rene), Oscar, Mellie, Irma, Mary (Victor), Estela, and Adauto Jr. (Matthew): all honoring her memory today along with seventeen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. Mom was the kind of person that she always worried whether everyone had a “full belly;” or else she was ready to pull out something for them to eat. Our mother was blessed to have a loving family who provided for her till the end. She loved flowers and took pride in her gardening. She also enjoyed reviving plants when one of her children brought her a nearly dead plant and a few weeks later: Alas! Look at that beautiful plant! She enjoyed several trips with family to Spain, Hawaii and many parts in Mexico. She also traveled on several cruises with family members and enjoyed going to the lake property and to South Padre Island. She was always ready to travel and be where the action was.
Our mom’s memory will be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her. Our beloved grandma is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. While we miss her dearly, we celebrate her extraordinary life and look forward to the day we are reunited with her in the kingdom of heaven.
Special thanks to Ms. Elisa Zuniga for her love and support as our mom’s caregiver for the past nine (9) years. Also, a big thank you to Mona Patel, NP, Dr. Holly Holmes, Dr. Christina Kim, as well as AVATAR Home Health and Hospice.
