Melinda Ann Smith LaBounty Rogers Whyte passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, December 13, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She survived both her parents, James Edward Smith and Virginia Lockett Smith. She is survived by her three siblings, Caroline Smith Maslona Smith Mason, Martha Smith Scharff, James Edward Smith. She is also survived by her four children, Charles R. LaBounty (Nancy), Michael W. LaBounty (Leslie), Virginia LaBounty Nosky (Ren), Wanda LaBounty Means and her 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren—Brittney Hall, Matt and Bryan Kelley, Andrew and Collin LaBounty, Richard, Lizzie, Emma and Robert Means, and Lauren and Trent Nosky.
Melinda was born in Pittsburg, Texas and grew up mainly in Texas but she always considered east Texas as her home. As a lifelong Longhorns fan, she attended the University of Texas where she met Bobby W. LaBounty and they had four children. In 1977, she remarried her husband of over 35 years, Jim Rogers.
She loved her work as a registered dietician (needless to say, her kids never got to eat Lucky Charms for breakfast) where she worked many years at Baylor Hospital in Dallas and several other hospitals in Kentucky, Arizona, and Plano, Texas.
She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano, Texas where she served on many committees. She enjoyed her Bible studies and helping others in the church.
Her service will be Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2 pm, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano, TX.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask you make donations to Grace Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
