1920 – 2018. Died peacefully on February 22nd. Melva was a lifelong resident of Houston and loved our city. She lived here all her life except for a few happy years she spent in Brenham Texas when she was married to her first loving husband John Fry, who predeceased her in 1971. She said that God had given her a happy life full of love and joy with just enough tears to make her strong. She later married a wonderful man Thomas Reed who passed away in 2004. She filled her spare time with volunteer activities such as, St Mark’s Episcopal church where she was a member since 1954. Other organizations she was actively involved with were De Pelchin Children’s Center, Junior League Patrons Group, Cancer Fighters of Houston, as she was a cancer survivor herself. Melva was an avid gardener and loved working with flowers and was a member of the Garden Club. Her husband, Tom and she loved to dance and were members of the River Oaks Dance Club, El Ciento Dance and El Baile Club. One of the organizations that brought her and her husband many hours of pleasure was the Houston Power Squadron. She is survived by the family that she loved and loved her dearly, her daughter, Lynnda Fry Addington, her son, Chris Fry and wife Nancy. Her grandchildren Kohlton and Rebekah Fry and great grandchild, Silas Wright. Melva felt she was truly blessed to have many dear friends who shared happy memories with her. There will be a private visitation for family at Forest Park Lawndale. Final interment is at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham Texas where the Reverend Ken Fields of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will preside. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Cancer Fighters of Houston.
