Mom, on Monday, September 24th you talked to God and He saw that you were getting weary. So, He did what He knew was best. He came and stood beside you and whispered, “Come and Rest”. The weary hours, the days of pain, the sleepless nights are past. You have found sweet rest at last. On October 9, 1938, Mercy D. Flowers was born to her late mother, Cora Gipson, and late step-father, Rayfield Windon. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mt Corinth Baptist Church for many years. She moved her membership to Mt Sinai Baptist Church in 1977, where Emeritus Rev. S.J. Gilbert, Sr. was her pastor. She attended and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1956. Mercy was employed with Sakowitz Department Store, Foleys Department Store and later AIG Insurance Company where she retired. Her life was filled with the enjoyment of shopping for purses (her passion), teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and singing in the Choir. Mercy was preceded in death with one daughter, Tarolyn Marshall and her mother, Cora Gipson. To cherish her wonderful memory, she leaves her three children: Sandra Scott, Shari Windon, and Craig Windon; five grandchildren, Marlon Windon, LaKenya Scott, Kiara Windon, Anthony and Andrew Windon; one great-grandchild, Jaylan Scott; four sisters, Maple Taylor, Lucille Cain, Rosetta Bennett and Cheryl Gipson and one brother, Richard Spencer; and a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving family and friends.
