

Michael Rex McGeehon, age 80, of Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 with his wife and children by his side at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital after suffering a massive stroke.
Mike was born on October 21, 1940 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Amsey Rex McGeehon and Kathryn (Hunter) McGeehon. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Biochemistry. After graduating, Mike began his career as a Crime Lab Chemist with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory in 1996.
Mike was a veteran, who proudly served as a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era, from 1963 to 1967. While stationed at the San Diego Naval Hospital, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Ryan. Mike and Mary Ann were married on August 6, 1966 in San Diego, California and would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year.
After his retirement, Mike led an active life. He was a two-time finisher of the Houston Marathon as well as the South Dakota Marathon. Mike was an avid cyclist, participating in many long-distance organized rides, including the Katy Flatlands Century, Bluebonnet Express and the Marfa 100. He was an enthusiastic participant in the cycling classes at the Brenda and John Duncan YMCA on Clay Road, where he was an active member. He gave of his time through volunteer work, volunteering most recently with Project Cure. As an avid learner, Mike was also enrolled in on-line classes to learn to speak Spanish. His favorite activity, above-all, was spending time with his wife and family, and Mike took great delight and pride in sharing and witnessing the activities and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant daughter, Theresa Lynn McGeehon.
Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son Michael McGeehon, Jr., of Houston, Texas; son David McGeehon and wife Kimberly of Sugar Land, Texas; daughter Kathleen Jones and husband Curt of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Kelly and Rylee McGeehon and Ryan and Kate Jones, 2 sisters, Nancy Jack of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Wilma Fryer of Jacksonville, Florida, and 2 nephews, Craig Jack and Dan Fryer.
Mike will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him, but fondly remembered for his deep faith, unwavering strength, his dedication and love for his family, and the care he showed to all of those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts may be made to St. Catherine of Siena or the charity of your choice.
The family is forever grateful for the compassionate care that Mike received at the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 10:30 – 11:30am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood in Houston 77043, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:30am.
Rite of Committal service will take place at 1:30pm at Houston National Cemetery.
