Minnie Doris Honora-Hill was born on October 5, 1938, in Opelousas, Louisiana and received her heavenly wings on August 19, 2024, in Seabrook, Texas. She attended North and Holy Ghost elementaries and graduated from J.S. Clark high school in Opelousas. She attended Southern University and graduated with her Bachelor and Master of Education from Rowan College (former Glassboro State University) in New Jersey.
She pursued both of her degrees while raising her five children as a single mother. She ensured all her children understood the power of a good education to escape the grips of poverty and to position themselves to own their destiny. More importantly, she taught her children and their friends the power of having a relationship with Christ.
She came to know Christ as her personal savior as a child. As her mother did, she also raised her children in the church. She exercised her faith in front of her children when she encouraged them to join her in prayer when she faced challenges. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Minnie was a teacher in her profession, and in life. She taught special education for over thirty years between Louisiana, New Jersey, and Texas (Alvin, LaPorte and Baytown). She was a highly decorated teacher that found the greatest joy in helping all children learn. She invested her own time and resources to expose children to lessons beyond the classroom.
She taught her family and friends about the power of faith as her journey on earth was ending. She lived the scriptures and spoke boldly about the blessing of going to heaven. She understood 2 Corinthians 5:8 “…to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.” She believed heaven is paradise from 1 Corinthians 2:9 “…eye have not seen, nor ear heard…the things God has prepared for them that love him.” She was fearless about dying because Psalms 23:4 says “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me.”
She is the greatest example of a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father Thaddeus Honora Sr., mother Doris Thibodeaux Honora, sister Leocadia Fusilier, brothers Thaddeus Honora Jr. and Ernest Honora, grandson Alexis Perez and great grandson Dominic James Perez.
Minnie is survived by her husband of 40-years Hayes Hill Jr., her sisters Teresa Honora Jones, Julia May Honora.
