Loyce Mae Tennard was born on May 30, 1937 to the late Victor Junior and Ilene Lucille Ozenne in Houston, Texas. She was raised in the Third Ward community of Houston and attended grade school at St Nicholas Catholic School. Loyce was a beautiful young lady with a sweet spirit, and was a proud graduate of Jack Yates High School where she was a majorette. Shortly after graduating, she met and married the late Chester Allen Davis, Jr. To this union, one son was born, Edwin Allen Davis. Later, she had another son, Lloyd Edgar Davis (Anthony) whose father was the late James D. Moranza (J.D.). Loyce decided to pursue a career in the medical field, and received on the job training to become an X-Ray Technician. She worked for many years at Medical Arts Hospital, Westbury Hospital, and Ledbetter Clinic in Twelve Oaks Hospital. However, she retired after working close to 20 years at Herman Hospital. During the course of pursuing her career, Loyce met and married Irvin D. Tennard. To this union, two children were born; Irvin Kenneth Tennard, and Gloria Louise Tennard. The Tennards bought and established a home in the Cambridge Village community in South Houston, where she has lived for the past 48 years. Loyce's home was always welcoming because of her warm, gentle, caring, and giving spirit. She loved to cook, and had many specialties such as oxtails, neck bones, and gumbo. She and her best friend and sister, Barbara Walton worked a long time together cooking and serving food at Garden Oaks Baptist Church. The Ozenne family was of the Catholic faith and Loyce grew up attending St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She remained Catholic until she converted to the Baptist faith, and eventually joined the First Mount Olive Baptist Church on Pardee St. in Houston, Texas where her son, Rev. Edwin A. Davis served as Pastor. Later, after he was called to Pastor the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Loyce moved her membership to Galilee and continued her Christian walk under his leadership. Loyce loved the Lord and was a faithful and dedicated member of Galilee for the past 27 plus years. She served in many capacities of the church with her favorite being the Mass Choir. She has also served in the Mission, Sunday School and Pastor's Aide Ministries. She enjoyed sending cards to members who were ill, or to those who lost loved ones. Loyce was a classy lady, and a sharp dresser who loved fashion. She organized many church fashion shows. She was always willing to do whatever was asked of her, and did it with a warm and joyful spirit. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. The last sermon Loyce heard her son preach at Galilee the day before she answered God's gentle call to eternal rest was "A Blessed and Wonderful Life," taken from Philippians 1:20-21. It was as if God was speaking through his message to assure her that "for her to live is Christ, but to die is gain." On July 20, 2015, the Lord peacefully called Loyce home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Lucille Ozenne, and brothers, Eugene V. Ozenne and Gregory Ozenne, Sr. She leaves to mourn: her step-mother, Melba Ozenne, sons; Rev. Dr. Edwin A. Davis (Dr. Charlotte), Lloyd E. Davis (Denise), and Irvin K. Tennard (Phyllis), daughter, Gloria L. Tennard, sisters; Joyce Ozenne Carr (Harold) of Lake Charles, LA., Victoria Ozenne Johnson, Loretta Ozenne, Sandra Ozenne Bailey of Dublin, CA, Regina Ozenne Armstrong (Kevin), Lenora Ozenne Waller (Efrem), brothers; Judson Ozenne (Joann), Dr. Joseph Ozenne (Tamara) of Nashville, TN, grandchildren; Eric Davis (Mandele), Erica Davis-Stribling (David), Chelsea Davis-Bibb (Derek), Courtney Davis, Joy Davis-Turner (Terrence), Tarina Davis, Miya Davis-Perez (Peter), Renetia Tennard, Justin Tennard, and Stephen Baker, nine great grandchildren, goddaughter; Arleen Moore, best friend; Barbara Walton, nieces, nephews, cousins, the Galilee Church family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
