Nelson Ernest Thornton Sr.

He was born in Groveton, Texas on April 22,1924 to parents Roland Thornton and Vula Davis Thornton and graduated from Jeff Davis High School.

Nelson was married to Rosalie Carker Thornton for 57 years. Rosalie passed away in February 2004. He was a proud Navy Veteran and served our country during World War II.

He had a career as a Telephone Repair Man and Supervisor for SouthWestern Bell / ATT and retired after 36 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Club For Men and had a passion for fishing, golf, woodworking and family.

Nelson is survived by his children Ernie Thornton and Ricky Thornton and wife Danette; grandchildren Gina Rhame and husband Jeff, Roland Thornton and wife Aimee, Trisha Allen and husband Dylan, Michaela Lutringer and husband Vincent, Roma Drlik and husband Jacob; great grandchildren Jagger Rhame, Henry Lutringer and Hudson Lutringer, Maryrose Allen, Duke Allen and Kooper Drlik.

A visitation for Nelson will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A rosary will occur Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A celebration of life will occur Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A committal service will occur Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
