

Ollie Mae Davis Jackson, eldest of 3 daughters, was born to Rev. Lemuel H. and Mrs. Zara L. Davis on March 24,1931, in Houston, TX. Ollie received her education at Twenty-Third Avenue Elementary School, Harper Junior High School, Booker T. Washington High School and Texas Southern University, later achieving licensure as a LVN through nurse training at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, TX. After earning her LVN license, Ollie began her nursing career at Lockwood Hospital in Houston, TX. Practice of her medical training wasn’t limited to hospital setting, as she served her family and community when called upon, as she was always available to care for cuts, bruises, sudden illnesses and end of life transitions.
She accepted Christ, as her personal savior and united through baptism with Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Dr. E.D. Carrington. Ollie served wherever needed in various capacities of the church. As a young teen, she shared her musical talent as pianist at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, the church’s Hallelujah Choir, The Mission Chorus, and was a member of the church’s Junior Mission Chorus. She met and married Rev. George O. Jackson, Jr. on January 25, 1951. Five children were born to this union of 20 years. When Rev. Jackson began pastoring, Mrs. Jackson left her church home to support him in his ministry, which included Macedonia Baptist Church, Wharton, TX; St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Brookshire, TX; Second Pleasant Green Baptist Church, Houston, TX; and North Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Cleveland, TX. She continued serving at North Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, when asked to do so by the congregation after he passed away in 1971, for the next 20+ years. Ollie simultaneously served as musician at Oak Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of her late father. Her musicianship was extended to Carl Barnes Funeral Home for homegoing services, occasionally.
Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church recognized Mrs. Jackson with an Award of Virtue, as a 2006 Lady of Gold. During the Annual Women’s & Girls’ Conferences, she taught biblical courses. She was also recognized by North Mt. Olive Baptist Church for her 20+ years dedication to their Musical Department.
Lovingly known as “Baby Sister”, “Sister”, “Jack”, “Mrs. Jackson”, “Mama”, “Aunt Ollie Mae” ,“Nanny” and “Sue-Sue”, Ollie Mae Davis Jackson, age 94 transitioned Saturday, June 7th, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. George O. Jackson Jr.; daughter, Arletta Jackson; son, Rev. George L. Jackson; parents, Rev. & Mrs. L.H. Davis; sister, Iva Davis Price; and numerous family and friends.
She will be forever cherished and loved by her children, Auretta Smith, Cheryl Jordan (Otis Jr.), Chadwick Jackson (Doretha); her grandchildren, Earnest Jackson, Eureka Jackson, Deborah Sanders (Jaremy), Matthew Smith, Erin Jackson, Candace Jordan, Oscar Turner, Otis Jordan III (Ebi), and Ashley Terry (Richard); her great-grandchildren, DyLyn Stamps, Jeremiah Sanders, Torian Wilkins Jr., Jase Sanders, Jaiden Wilkins and Audrey Jordan; her sister, Rosetta Davis; her first cousin, Annie Jean Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
