I had the privilege of working with Oscar for nearly 20 years at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. He was more than a colleague, he was a friend. Always smiling,  cracking a joke, and he always lifted the mood, Oscar made every interaction memorable. His warmth, humor, and dedication left a lasting mark on everyone.  I’ll miss him deeply, and I know his family and the museum community feel that loss even more. Sending heartfelt sympathy to all who loved him.

My heartfelt condolences for the passing of my Uncle Oscar. I will remember him as a hardworking individual. When I was in my early adolescence, he invited me over for a week during the summertime to do some odd jobs around his house in exchange for for a bit of money. I appreciated the interest he took in me. May he rest in peace.

Although we weren't close,  I've always had great memories of you.  You always had a smile plastered on your face, and your kindness radiated around you.  You helped raise two wonderful, kind children, and one kind and inquisitive grandchild.  
I will miss you,  Uncle Oscar.  Thank you for being a light in the darkness,  and for the time that I was lucky enough to have shared with you.

I also worked with Oscar from my very first day, January 19, 1993, at the Houston Museum of Natural Science until my last day on February 14, 2004. Oscar was remarkable. He had the most amazing ‘can do’ attitude and failure was never an option. No matter what the problem was, he always managed to come up with a solution and did it with a smile. I never saw Oscar angry or upset the entire time I worked with him. In 1999, I was given the less than enviable job of developing the Y2K (remember that??) plan for HMNS. Oscar was the most amazing resource and a real partner to me working through all of the mechanical systems and determining how the year 2000 might affect them. I could not have completed that project without Oscar’s kind, patient and thorough assistance. The world is less bright without Oscar in it. Via con Dios, my friend. God speed.

Rest in peace, Uncle Oscar.  Although we were not close, we loved you.  A memory I have is when I was around 11 or 12 yrs old my uncle Oscar visited our home with uncle David and uncle Joe to assist my Dad (Omero) with mechanical work on a vehicle.   They all were  laughing and enjoying the time.   I do not remember if they were able to get the vehicle running. 😊 God bless the family.   Blessings and peace.

I worked with Oscar Ruiz from my first day at the Houston Museum of Natural Science (Feb 1994) until I retired in 2017.  One of my early memories of Oscar is before he had his accident – he and one of my staff members were up on top of the waterfall in the Butterfly Center, trying to adjust the flow.  Oscar was always ready to lend a hand – in person until he was not able to do so; and after his accident, as a director and coordinator of assistance.  His knowledge of the museum and its operating systems was stupendous.  
Being confined to a wheelchair did not change Oscar's  helpfulness and amazingly good spirits.  I could always rely on him to help with whatever problem I brought to him.  He was a kind, reliable, and good-hearted member of the HMNS staff – a vital one, without whom the institution would not have functioned.  I admired him tremendously that he did not let his considerable handicap get in the way of his job and that he was able to be so gracious and always helpful even when it must not have been easy.
Rest in peace, Oscar, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your considerable help and camaraderie over the years.  My sincerest condolences to Sharon and Ramon.
