Pat was born to William and Wilma Ward of Chicago, Illinois, on November 16, 1931. After graduating from high school Pat pursued a career in nursing and graduated in 1952 from the West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing. She then continued her undergraduate studies at Milligan University of Tennessee, graduating Class of 1954. Pat later completed her education with a Master of Nursing Administration from the University of Houston in 1985. Pat jokingly referring to herself as “Nurse Ratched.” She was a nurse at Bellaire General Hospital of Bellaire, Texas, and later landed the rewarding position as School Nurse at Sharpstown Middle School of Houston, HISD. Pat retired from that position and her distinguished nursing carer in 2000.
Pat said her greatest achievement was being the mother of her adored children and watching them thrive. She enjoyed traveling, and cruises with daughter Cherie brought her many fun memories. Another travel favorite of Pat’s was her annual summer trips to Hawaii to visit son Chip and watch the Tour de France together. Pat also looked forward to her yearly summer volunteer gig as a camp nurse alongside dear friend Maria at Prude Ranch in Ft. Davis, Texas. Her favorite memories also included family holidays and vacations with son Tim and his family. And cherished lengthy visits with daughter Caryn.
Pat loved to spend her free time tending to her gardens. She never missed a daily walk with best friend Shirley. Patricia was an avid reader and had a vast knowledge of history. She cheered on all the local sports teams enthusiastically. Pat crocheted hundreds of blankets and hats for children in war torn countries. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her honorable legacy will continue to live through them. She was a member of First Colony Church of Christ and though her health no longer permitted her to attend services in person she attended virtual church every Sunday and shared her knowledge and love for God with all.
Pat is survived by her children, George “Chip” Davis, Caryn Crawford, Timothy Davis, and Cheryl Davis; her grandchildren Ricki Strehlow, Beau Davis, and Trent Davis; and seven great grandchildren whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her child Sharon Kay Davis, husband George Davis, brother William Ward Jr., sister Lesley Haskins, and parents William and Wilma Ward.
“My command is this: love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”
