She was preceded in death by her mother: Frances Delgado; husband: Trinidad Montelongo; brother: Louis Perez; grandson: Michael Elizondo; son-in-laws: Arturo Elizondo and Walter Simmons; and daughter-in-law: Santa Montelongo. Mrs. Montelongo was born in Pontiac, Michigan on June 15, 1929 and moved to South Houston in the early 1940’s. She married the love of her life, Trinidad, on May 24, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Houston, TX. Together they built a life of love, family and faith with their five children in the Manchester neighborhood of Houston. Her devotion to her faith led her to ride a bus for months to gather enough signatures to establish a mission which would eventually become St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. As one of the founding members of the church, she helped shape the religious education program which was conducted in her home until the church was able to build and hold classes. In 1965 she was named one of the first members of the Ladies’ Council at St. Alphonsus. She was also a loyal volunteer at annual bazaars. Not only was she heavily involved with the church but she was also one of the first Latina parents elected to the 1962 John R. Harris PTA board, as the secretary. In the late 1970’s she became part of another extended family with the Magnolia Park Sharks Football organization. Some of her most fond memories include camping with other Shark families, watching her son Billy win the 1979 Super Bowl and watching her grandsons; Michael, Louis Jr., Christopher Joel, Noel, Louis and Chris Paul, play as well. Another favorite activity was watching her grandchildren at numerous school and sporting matches. This tradition continued as she frequented the great-grandchildren's school and sporting matches as well.
The Montelongo family would like to thank their relatives, friends, the community of St. Alphonsus, Golden Agers, Irma Sanchez, Johnny Vigil, the staff at Memorial Hermann, the staff at Proverbial Care (Dr. Jasmine), Vantage Hospice Care and those who have traveled from afar.
