She was born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Petra worked as a seamstress in her country. She moved to Brownsville, Texas and married. Later, she moved to Houston and raised her family here. Eventually she became a permanent Houston resident. She retired after working for many years at the J.C. Penney's store on N. Shepherd. She was a hard working person who also worked extra part-time jobs to provide for her children. Her strong work ethic set an example of a role model for them to follow.
Petra loved cooking Mexican food recipes from her home country. She had a green thumb and was an expert gardener. So, her favorite pastime was working outside in her garden, tending to her flowers, rose gardens, magueys, bougainvilleas, jasmine, grapefruit trees, and variety of native plants. She enjoyed her constant companions, Rita, the Chihuahua, and Tito, the parakeet. She also attended the Senior Magnolia Center for several years and made many friends there.
She is survived by her children, Victoria Avalos, Pilar Avalos and Carlos David Avalos and her 4 grandchildren. Petra was devoted to her family and cared for them deeply. She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children. We all loved her and her spirit to survive and prevail. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
We Love You Forever.
