

Phyllis was born in Kilgore, Tx, and started Piano in Houston at age 10 and later added Organ. She was initiated in Rainbow in 1944 and at age 17 was a featured pianist at the State convocation in Austin. She joined Eastern Star in 1949.
She raised Mike, Dan, Matt & Allison in the 1950s-70s. In the early 1960s she started work on an undergraduate degree. Simultaneously, she directed the Adult and Jr Choirs at her local church. She graduated in 1971 from UH with a Bachelors in Music degree. Her teaching career then started and sequentially taught choir at two different school districts while holding down one church choir director position out of a total of three.
In 1973 she joined Social Order of Beauceants and in 1978 Daughters of the Nile.
She was president at Galveston Assembly SOOB in 1982 & 1989. During this time and onwards she pursued various crafts, needlepoint and quilting projects.
Phyllis was the Supreme Worthy President of SOOB 1994-95. Her emblem was the Lamb of God holding the Beauceant colors Red, White & Black and also the Shepherd’s Crook. Her motto was “Happiness is Serving Others.” She directed choirs at 3 Supreme Assemblies.
She was devoted to serving God through music by serving on the Board of Directors for Lakeview Choir Clinic for 27 years.
Phyllis touched countless numbers of lives through her music and love and kindness.
A visitation for Phyllis will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a committal service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to Living Water International - Christian group which digs water wells overseas and shares the gospel.
