

Rachel was born on February 22, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to Alberto De La Garza and Maria Marroquin De La Garza. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to her community.
She is survived by her beloved son, Christopher Cardenas. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Christina De La Garza Flores; her brother, Alberto De La Garza; her nieces, Rosamaria Flores and Amy De La Garza; and her nephews, Joe Albert Flores and Eric De La Garza.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto De La Garza and Maria Marroquin De La Garza, and her sister, Mary De La Garza Salmeron.
Rachel dedicated over 20 years of service working for Dr. Hernandez, where she ultimately retired as an office manager. She was a proud graduate of Milby High School, Class of 1968, and remained active as a member of the Milby Hispanic Alumni Association.
A devoted mother, Rachel was also a proud Aggie Mom and Marine Mom. Her faith guided her life as a member of Iglesia Bautista de Magnolia, where she actively participated in mission trips to Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.
Rachel was deeply committed to her community. She served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Magnolia Park Historical organization, was an active member of the Magnolia Park Civic Club, and faithfully served as a Harris County Precinct 65 Judge from 2010 to 2022.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the joy she brought to others. Rachel loved baking, spending time with family and friends, and playing lotería. Above all, she was an amazing and devoted mother.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, Grand Chapel, on April 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery on April 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Rachel’s legacy of love, service, and faith will live on in all who knew her.
