Robert Lee Pinson, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a Trustee of No Time To Waste Ministry, was born in Palestine, Texas on July 14, 1930, to Mamie and Colie Pinson. He matriculated through the public schools of Palestine and later served in the U.S. Army. After serving in the Army, he was looking for a career path and attended a TSU trade school and majored in upholstery. He worked for several upholstery manufacturers, then later opened his own upholstery business serving the Houston community for over 50 years. Mr. Pinson was faithful to God in his church activities, serving at Antioch church and later New Life Tabernacle and No Time To Waste Ministries. Mr. Pinson married Yvonne Letrell and from that union came four children, Steven, Shawn, Andre and Tina Yvonne. In addition, he adopted his wife’s two children, Caster and Keith. He raised them all as his own. Twenty-six years after his divorce from Yvonne, he married Gale Celestine Bennett Harris May 2009. Gale and Mr. Pinson enjoyed their years together and she remained his faithful wife through his illness. It can be difficult to capture a person’s entire life in a short obituary. Especially if the person lived a good life as long as Mr. Pinson did. He was a gracious man who was happy with being a father, a faithful churchgoer, a husband, and a contributor to his community performing the exceptional job of beautiful upholstery. Mr. Pinson loved a good meal and had a great appetite. With his two loyal and trusted friends, he went to lunch with Elder Clarke Wade and Deacon Roosevelt Williams. Mr. Pinson enjoyed going to church, hearing a good sermon and teaching the Bible. He was a Biblical scholar. He enjoyed his upholstery business, meeting new people and creating new designs. He was a perfectionist about his work. He wouldn’t let anything go out of his shop that wasn’t 100% correct for his customer. His attention to detail and quality was paramount. He enjoyed bowling and owned his own bowling ball. He liked to drive through the city to see the new construction and how the city he had known for so long was changing. He taught upholstery classes for Leisure Learning in his shop for several years, as well as at Houston Community College. He loved teaching upholstery and it was his greatest wish that his students learn to do upholstery with perfection. Mr. Pinson is preceded in death by his parents Mamie and Colie Pinson; three sisters, Alice Dorthenia Huckaby, Emma Veasey, Helen Adams; his four brothers, Staymon Pinson, Napoleon Pinson, T. C. Pinson, O. L. Pinson, and Benjamin Pinson. The impact Mr. Pinson had on Gale’s family was also special, visiting with them in Washington, D.C. Maryland and traveling with them internationally to Belize. He shared his BBQ skills and expertise with love and will always be remembered with compassion and love. He leaves to treasure his legacy: his devoted wife, Gale Pinson; children, Keith and Castor Govant, Stephen (Mary) Pinson, Robert and Shawn and Tina Pinson; 25 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
