

Sarah was born and raised in Houston, Texas, she graduated from Jeff Davis High School and married in 1951 to Isidore G. Puente. Sarah was the mother of one son and five daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents Pedro & Delores Aranza, eldest daughter Pauline A. Berry (Tommy), her fourth daughter Nancy A. Abrego (Steve) and Grandson Gilbert Hernadez Jr. (Gia).
Sarah is survived by her sister Theresa Aranza Hernandez, son John Anthony, daughters, Sarah “Ann” Lowery, Terese A. Hernandez (Gilbert Sr.) and Kathyrn A.P. Comeaux (Mark). She was the grandmother to David John Hernandez (Kathleen), Jeremy Hernandez (Christina), Peter P. Berry, Paula D. Berry-Smith (Brent), Elizabeth A. Mauricio (Jose), Salvador A. Comeaux & Adam A. Comeaux. Sarah was a great-grandmother to Alex, Taylor, Sophie, Sabastion, Landon, Sabrina, Selena, Eli, Alex, Paulie & Mila; as well as an 11-time great-great-grandmother.
Sarah worked for the Kroger Company at the Warehouse Distribution Center for 42 years. Was active in the Teamster Union with Local 968, and the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW). She was honored numerus times throughout her years of service for Women of the Year for the Labor Union and Tejano Woman of the Year (2002). Sarah was a firm believer in exercising your right to vote and as such was a poll work for 30+ years. Sarah participated in numerous political rallies, walks and petition signings.
A visitation will be held at Heights Funeral Home, located at 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX, on September 11, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service is scheduled for September 12, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 215 E 10th St, Houston, TX 77008.
Following the funeral, a committal service will take place at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm on the same day.
