Devoted and faithful wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother “Queenie,” Sharron Ann Brieger Planck died peacefully at her home in Houston, Texas on August 16, 2023. She was 76 years old. A steadfast Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Sharron was always ready to lend a helping hand. She loved her family and friends and was so grateful for all the wonderful experiences she had with them throughout her life.
Sharron is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mayson Planck, her grandchildren, Amanda and Brett, her sister-in-law Paula Lowrey, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends who are family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Planck, son, Jeffrey Planck, mother, Ruth Lewis Brieger Jackson, father Gerald Telfair Brieger, and brothers Jimmy Brieger and Ronald Brieger.
Sharron was born in Houston, Texas in 1946. She grew up in the Montrose area and graduated from Lamar High School in 1965. Sharron got her teaching degree from the University of Houston in 1970 and taught 6th grade math following graduation. It was at the University of Houston where she met the love of her life Robert “Bob” Planck. They were married for 53 years. Sharron supported Bob in everything he did and was proud to be his partner in life. Sharron was a devoted mother to Jeff. They had a very special bond. She said, “Anywhere that boy went, I went.” One of her favorite memories was when he secretly nominated Bob and her for the University of Houston Parents of the Year award during his undergraduate years – and they won! Sharron was a doting “Queenie” to Amanda and Brett, and she supported their activities with equal commitment and enthusiasm. She said they are the greatest gift she ever received.
It was important to Sharron that she give to others, and she was involved with various volunteer and service organizations over the years. At UH, she was a member of the Houston Assembly of Delphian Alamo Chapter for 40 years, serving in numerous leadership roles through the years. Sharron found great joy in helping University of Houston students through the Delphian Scholarship program and always looked forward to spending time with and getting to know the Delphian Scholars. She received the Delphian Life Achievement Award in 2016. Sharron was very involved with Tau Kappa Epsilon Family and Friends. In 2001, she was honored for her dedication and support of TKE as one of the first recipients of the Jean Cochran Fraternity Dedication Award, TKE’s highest award given to non-members. She was also a member of the Krewe of Gabrinus and took great pleasure in giving back to the Galveston community. She especially enjoyed tossing beads to the Mardi Gras revelers in Galveston for the past 20 years.
