Stella was born on May 19, 1929 to Daisy & William Spicer in Oklahoma. She married Willie Elbert McKinzie on February 10, 1948 and they went on to have two children, Linda and Jeannie. They resided for a short time in Sulphur Springs and San Antonio, but moved to Houston in 1958. Stella was known throughout her life as the caretaker of the family, friends and even strangers who needed a helping hand. She often cared for the sick or helped out working mothers by taking care of their children during the day. She worked as a nurse at Heights Hospital and also at Parkway Hospital caring for those who needed it most. Even after retirement, she continued to care for elderly and disabled patients in her home as part of the hospice care system. Mrs. McKinzie is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Elbert McKinzie, her father, William Martin Spicer, her mother, Daisy Myrtle Spicer, and seven of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Linda McKinzie and Jeannie Anderson, her sisters, Martha Wade and Dollie Beal, and her sister-in-law Myrna Spicer, her grandchildren, Frances Foreman, Daniel Baez and wife, Leslie, and Shelby Anderson and wife Sybil. Stella was also a loving great grandmother to Richard Tofte, Mackinzie Tofte, Tiffany Tofte, Isabella Baez, Samuel Baez and Sophia Baez. The family will receive friends Monday, December 9, 2019, 10:30AM. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the Heights Chapel. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
