

Stephen was born to the late Thomas and Evelyn Zajac, on Tuesday, January 25, 1944 in Utica, New York. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas from 1961 to 1963. Stephen married Virginia Rose DeKime in 1971 and relocated to Houston in 1981 where he worked security for Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital for over 25 years, making lifelong friends and memories.
Steve is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 43 years, Virginia; three children: Christian and wife Lorraine of Tomball; Sabrae Zajac of Houston; and Matthew and wife Marissa of Katy. He is also survived by grandchildren Colby, Arissa, Jazmine, Macen and Logan; sister Patricia Zajac of Utica, New York; brother John Zajac of Syracuse, New York; sister Marcella (Zajac) Pryputniewicz and brother-in-law Wayne Pryputniewicz of Columbia, South Carolina and niece Mary Jo Zajac. He also leaves behind brother and sister-in-law Peter and Bridget (Sissy) Todaro; Nephew Peter V. Todaro and wife Rebecca and family, as well as many dear friends.
Steve’s family and friends will remember his wisdom, sense of integrity, generosity, work ethics, sense of humor, love of fishing and boats, playing pool, time at the rodeo and enjoying his grandchildren.
The Zajac family would like to thank Steve’s caregivers and nurses at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital, and Memorial Hermann Kindred Hospital who so loved and cared for him. The assistance and care provided by all was invaluable.
Friends were invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00pm to 9:00pm in the evening on Thursday, May 22 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Rd, Houston, where a vigil service and the Rosary was led by Deacon Don Bradley at 7:00pm.
The Funeral Liturgy was held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Dr, Houston, TX 77024, at 12:00 in the afternoon on Friday, May 23, 2014, with Reverend John E. Cahoon as celebrant.
The Rite of Committal followed in the Memorial Oaks Mausoleum at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079.
