He was my father in law, and he was a stellar example of what it means to be a father. I wish he had been allowed to experience his grandson, Devin. But I will cherish all of the aspects my son has in common with Tommy.

Tommy was a second father to me. He saw me through my last year in high school. He's one of the best fathers I've ever had. I turned out better because of him. I hope wherever you are you're camping and being one with Nature. Say hi to Dad for me . Maybe you can camp together again. I love you.

We wish we could be with you today and are sending all of our love to you. Uncle Tommy was truly special, completely unique and we have so many fond memories with him. Artistic, smart, funny and kind. He loved his children and grand children so much. We are holding you close in our hearts. What a beautiful life he lived.

My condolences and prayers of comfort go out to the family. I have many fond memories of Tommy. I'm glad to be able to see all the photos, they really helped bring all those memories of Tommy's nature and goodness to the forefront of my mind. Tommy was a very special and unique individual. One thing I remember most is how much he loved his family, the children and grandchildren, and how proud he was of them.

Tommy Gay was our dear friend and all around camping and canoeing companion. He was an amazing and knowledgeable person who always could bring up a laugh or two.  I have fond memories of all of our children having great times in the forest, in the canoe roaring down a river or relaxing in a calm lake.  We would bring our dog, Daisy, on some trips. Tommy was a master with dogs and helped us when Daisy jumped out of the canoe. Always helpful and kind.  He will be missed greatly. My husband, Jerry, passed away about a year ago. He was Tommy’s  good buddy before we met and I really appreciated Tommy’s kindness. We were married in his living room in Houston. I hope they are meeting each other in the afterlife.

Uncle Tommy was a ‘one of a kind’ person. 
He always found a way to enjoy life. 
He had the greatest laugh and he laughed often. 
He loved his children above all else. 
There are many that will miss him dearly. 
He loved my Charlie. 
I’ll miss him.

Tommy was such a happy and kind person, who lived his life to the fullest. His pictures really captured how much fun he had in his life.  He was an example for all of us to never give up on life and to keep moving and enjoying it.

My precious Uncle Tommy was like a father to me , 1996 he gave me away in my wedding to my dearest Dave Heimbach. He loved my Dave like a son. Then came Chase and Dean " the little boys " He loved them like they were his own. He loved to camp, hike and be in nature For many years he would visit my family in California . Many stories, Hurst Castle, Yosemite, and many more beautiful places. His photography was amazing. He made so many pieces for me that looked like Anzel Adam's. But the " snake I stepped on was in a ball like a hamburger" Yes. He had the humor like no other. He could tell stories about all of our family. Stories that now will be left in our hearts. What a wonderful man. I will miss him daily. He will live in my heart now .
