Velma Lee Kirksey-Bloomer April 05, 1936 – June 15, 2015 Our mother, Velma Lee Kirksey-Bloomer was blessed to be a part of this world for eighty-years, born to Ruby Lewis-Everett-Kirksey and Wallace Kirksey, April 05, 1936. She was born in Shreveport Louisiana, where she resided until age forty-eight. While in La. she married Henry Lee Bloomer, Sr. with whom she bore five children, Cheryl Lynn Bloomer, Brenda Ann Bloomer, Henry Lee Bloomer, Jr., Ronald Bloomer and Nita Kay Bloomer. Later in life she met and fancied George Roberts, formerly, M. C. Roberts. They went on to have five children as well, Rodney Bloomer, Monette Kirksey, Tangy Marie Kirksey, Patrick Fitzgerald Kirksey and Shelia Nicole Kirksey. She was a devoted mother who spent every waking hour ensuring that her children were always taken care of, also instilling values and never sparing the rod. She was a great daughter, mother, sister, teacher, an excellent chef, hairdresser and nurturer. When the grandchildren came, they received no less. Through all her struggles, never once did she complain. While she valued family, anyone needing her help, she didn’t hesitate to lend a hand. She was a God-Fearing woman that read the Bible from beginning to end…this was done before she’d lie down to sleep and soon as she awoke the next morning. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran, where we attended and were Baptized. In 1984, she reconnected and moved to Houston with our dad George Roberts. This is where she’d spend the rest of her days still being the Loving and Caring person that she always was, becoming a housewife and never losing touch with her children and grandchildren that remained in Louisiana. She was champion, in every sense, and endured whatever came her way, and until God called her home she never missed a beat. She was sharp and strong-willed, but knew it was her time to rest. She knew that everything and everyone was what and where they’re supposed to be. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him; and He shall direct thy path. Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones”. (Proverbs 3: 5-8) On a personal note, I say, Thank You, we all Love You and will never forget the values you instilled, Rest in Peace Mama! ***
