Vera Lee (Williams) Schufford was born on December 3, 1936 to Hector and Adline Williams in Ringgold, Louisiana. Around the early 1970’s she and her seven children relocated to Houston, Texas to seek a better job market. Vera began her career in the retail industry where she worked for over 30 years. Starting at Oshman’s Sporting Goods where she was employed for over 10 years and was shortly promoted to management. Along the way, while raising her children she managed to open a side business known as “The Langley Road Inn.” It was a popular after-hours spot to unwind and enjoy good food, especially the “square” hamburgers! Upon leaving Oshman’s Vera worked at Pryorities Boutique Store for over 20 years where she developed an appetite for fashion. She and the owner Judy Pryor had both a professional and a personal friendship which has lasted to this day. Vera also had very elegant taste and it was evident by just knowing her. Vera’s friendship with Judy introduced her to Dr. Steven Hamilton, Tom and Buddy who were very influential in her life. These three developed a lasting friendship and lifelong bond with Vera. Sometime ago Dr. Hamilton said to one of Vera’s children, "thank you for sharing your mother with me." One of her dearest and closest friends, Mary Shepherd is someone Vera spent quality time with, especially when she needed to get away and be in the company of a true friend. Vera is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Ben Williams, Albert Williams and Fregust Williams. Left to mourn her passing are her loving children, Charlotte (Mark) Gladney, Harvey Como, Mary Como, Michael (Andrea) Como, John Como, Robert Como and Fredrick Como; her very special companion for the last 20 years R.E. Holman; brother Regust Williams; sisters, Bernice Miles, Veora Howard, Lola Casey, Juanita Sanders and Arlethia Williams; and a host of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
