

Born November 3, 1946 in Houston, TX to Elmo Petty, Jr. and Minnie Mache, he attended Trinity Lutheran School and Jeff Davis High School Class of 1965 and was a member of the U.S. Air Force.
Vernon enjoyed working with his extended family, of co-workers and customers, as a Dispatcher for Rig Runners, Inc., playing poker and shooting a game of pool. He enjoyed building his model cars and airplanes, playing 42 with his family, and was a member of the Sons of Herman for 54 years.
Survivors include his mother, Minnie Collins of Houston; daughter, Kimberley Garner and husband Jay of Clute; son, Lucas Petty; sister, Diana Howse and Elton Thornell of Pearland; step-brother L.C. Collins, Jr. and wife Sally of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Justin and Kelsey Garner of College Station; nephews, Ryan Howse and Jo Black of Houston and son Luke; Darron Collins of Fort Worth and wife Mary and daughter Natalie Claire; nieces, Melissa Eaker and husband Ryan of Austin and daughter Ava; Natalie Tucker of Fort Worth and children Kelsi and Zachary; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Mozisek Petty; father, Elmo Petty, Jr.; step-father, Louis C. Collins, Sr.; grandparents Elmo and Eula Petty and Julius and Minnie Mache.
