Walter “Wally” Schuenke departed this earthly life to go home and be in the arms of his loving Savior Jesus Christ on September 18, at 96 years of age. Wally was born in Faribault Minnesota Texas on January 17, 1927 to Frank and Ida Schuenke. He was one of 9 siblings and upon leaving Minnesota, he joined the US Navy in order to honorably serve his country during WW2. Towards the end of his stint in the service he met and married the love of his life, Betty Lieder in Houston. They raised 2 children Gerald and Candace in Cypress, Texas. Wally had a zeal for life and a love for his Lord that he shared with all. He spent 40 years working in various supervisory positions in the oil and gas business in and around Houston. He enjoyed working in his woodshop and specialized in refinishing furniture for his friends and family. He also enjoyed spending many days fishing with his grandsons at the Schuenke family lake house. In their earlier golden years, he and his wife very much enjoyed their time spent with their three grandsons as they showed the boys the vast expanse of the American countryside while traveling throughout these United States in various recreational vehicles during their very active retirement.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 72-year, Betty in 2019. He is survived by son Gerald and his wife, Kelly of Duncanville, TX, daughter Candace and her husband Clem of Bryan, TX. He is also survived by his three grandsons, Kyle, Craig and Cody Hausmann. In addition, he also leaves 2 great granddaughters, Lorelei and Elizabeth Hausmann as well as one great grandson, Samael Hausmann. Walter is also survived by one sister, Irene Mallon of San Antonio, TX.
The Schuenkes were members of St. Timothy’s Lutheran church in Cypress and after moving to Bryan, Wally was a member of Bethyl Lutheran Church. Special thanks to the staffs of Carriage Inn Independent and Assisted Living in Bryan, as well as the staff of Brazos Valley Hospice also in Bryan.
