Remembering Warren Allen Taylor
His legal name was Warren Allen Taylor, but to almost everyone, he was simply known as Taylor. His children affectionately called him "Pops" or "old man," while his grandchildren referred to him as "Papa." Taylor had just celebrated his 63rd birthday by going fishing, a pastime he deeply enjoyed. He lived in Houston, Texas, with his beloved wife, Medeina. Taylor’s passing leaves behind a legacy filled with love, wisdom, and quiet strength that will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Early Life and Character
Born in Pinehurst, North Carolina, Taylor left his hometown to join the military, which led him to spend several years living in Germany—a chapter of his life that provided him with many stories to share. For those who knew him, Taylor was a man whose presence was both grounding and profound, and at times, a little intimidating. He possessed a direct yet deeply meaningful way of speaking—a rare gift that compelled those around him to stop, listen, and reflect, or sometimes, to head in the opposite direction. His words carried significant weight, not because he sought to impress, but because he spoke with honesty, knowledge, and insight.
Talents, Knowledge, and Curiosity
Taylor was endlessly curious and remarkably capable—the kind of person who could fix anything, whether it was a broken appliance, a car, a computer, or simply a moment that needed steady hands. He was the one everyone turned to in times of need. Well-versed in mechanics, automation, engineering, and physics, Taylor could spot a car on the road and identify its year, manufacturer, and production numbers. His breadth of knowledge often amazed people he met for the first time. Known as a “no nonsense” kind of guy, if you were a salesperson selling anything he was buying, he typically knew more than you and was impressed if you knew more than him.
Hobbies and Passions
Taylor embraced new hobbies each year. He was a master chess player and enjoyed playing spades with friends and colleagues at the New Haven and Wallingford Post Office. The internet was a perfect fit for his inquisitive mind—he taught himself to play the guitar (somewhat), mastered the art of copying and mixing music onto CDs, began painting canvases, and, four years ago, started crafting wooden kitchen chopping boards. He loved music, cigars and was skilled at sketching faces. Taylor also found joy and challenge in the gaming world of Warframe, where his strategic thinking and determination truly shone.
Family and Legacy
Taylor is survived by his wife, Medeina Taylor; his children, Warren Taylor II (Champ), Candice, Monique, Ashton, Taylor Harris (Lil Taylor), and his grandchildren, Amarie, Jayceon, Alani, Aniyah, and Lauren. He was the beloved son of Mildred Taylor and brother to Barrington and Rita. Taylor’s love, guidance, humor, sternness, and introspective nature will continue to shape their lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Taylor, and his brother, Marvin Trent.
Honoring His Memory
Taylor was a private individual who kept a small, close-knit circle of loved ones. He will be cremated on Tuesday, March 24th. His immediate family will come together to honor a life lived with love, purpose, and intelligence in a small, private celebration. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes and asks that friends and loved ones share their favorite memories, experiences, and well wishes on the website.
A Lasting Impact
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Taylor’s impact—his cool demeanor (with shades, of course), his words, laughter, brilliance, and love—will continue to echo in the lives of all those he touched. His memory will remain a blessing, steady and enduring.
