

Lawrence was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. In 1943 he enlisted at the age of 17, where he qualified as a Sharpshooter, and served in the Pacific during WWII. At the age of 21, he became a Mason. Last year he celebrated 75 years as a member of Reagan Masonic Lodge. It was one of his proudest moments. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1990. Lawrence was also a Lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where he served for many years. He lived a lifetime of service and honor. He will be greatly missed.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Thurman; parents, Caroline & Boone Thurman; brothers, Robert Thurman and Marvin Thurman. He is survived by his daughter, Molly Ditta and husband Willie; grandchildren, Joseph Ditta and wife Kim, and Lexie Lebel and husband James; great-grandchildren, Sydney Lebel, Levi Lebel, Keenan Cha and husband Young, Gabrielle Veillon, and Laurel Ditta.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Heights Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 11:30 AM. A procession to Houston National Cemetery will follow for the committal service at 1:30 PM. The honor of pallbearer has been bestowed upon Lawrence's masonic brothers from Reagan Masonic Lodge; Gilbert Melton, Mike Halling, Doug Brown, Alberto Castelli, Tommy Overton and Chad Cornelius.
