

Wilma Garnet Moore Combs passed away on January 19, 2016, at the age of 95. She was born March 28, 1920, in Putnam County, Warren Township, Putnamville, Indiana to Roscoe Thomas and Emma Myrtle Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband A. Ronald Combs, by her brother Col. Floyd Moore and her sister Ruby M. Stringer and by granddaughters Jennifer Combs Kranich and Rachel Michelle Combs.
She attended Indiana University where she met and later married the love of her life Albert Ronald "Ron" Combs in November, 1939, on the campus of IU. They remained married until his death in October, 2004. They shared the lives of the Greatest Generation that included a 3 year absence when Ron went to war (1942-1946), multiple homes while he opened W.T. Grant's stores all over the Mid-Western U.S. and the move to Texas in 1957, in part to assist with the desegregation efforts for the company stores in Houston. She supported Ron's move into the insurance business in 1963, where they both enjoyed the success it brought for many years. After her career as a homemaker, she entered the business world where she was employed in accounting over the years for Spring Branch Hospital, Houston X-Ray and several law firms and attorneys. She and Ron shared many travel adventures, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and successful careers in community service, including the service sorority Phi Sigma Alpha, Gamma Theta chapter, of which she was the last surviving member, Kiwanis and Kiwanitas, Shriners, Lions Clubs and more, as well as activities through Bear Creek United Methodist Church. After Ron's death she continued to be active in her community and with her bridge buddies at the Harris County Senior Citizens Center and her retirement home Copperfield Estates.
Throughout her life she was gracious, caring and loving to all who knew her. She touched many, many lives in her time. She will be missed by many friends, neighbors and family to whom she passed her love for this life.
She is survived by her loving family: son Terry L. Combs and wife Linda of Tyler, Texas; son Daniel G. Combs and wife Judy of Bedford, Texas; son Randall J. Combs and wife Patricia of Elgin, Texas; daughter Rebecca C. Young and husband Michael of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Sarah Boruff and husband Marcus, A. Heather Combs, Rebecca Bayard, Meghan Combs, Dylan Combs, Neil Combs and wife Olivia, Kelly Young, Michelle Young and seven great grandchildren, Peyton, Reilly, Scout, Callahan, Christian, Brendan and Quinton.
A memorial celebration of a life well lived and of meaning to all who knew her, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20th at Hearthstone Country Club, 7615 Ameswood Road, Houston, TX 77095. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charities of choice, especially to those that do good works for the least among us...
