Yvonne Ferguson Nelson, born January 27, 1941, in Houston, Texas, to Lottie and Jeff R. Ferguson, Sr., passed away after brief hospice care on June 27, 2023. Yvonne grew up on a small family farm on Tidwell Road in Houston. She attended Sam Houston High School, graduating with honors. Following high school, she worked at Bank of the Southwest and had a career in accounting, rising to head of checking at First Gibraltar, now Bank of America, and ending her long career at 70 when she retired as the controller of Kacal, Adams, and Law, LLC. She was widowed in her 40s from her first husband, David Nelson, with whom she has two daughters, Suzanne Lobodzinski and Sherry Byington. Yvonne shared and cherished the last 23 years of her life with Hase Kovic. They embraced traveling, fine food and wine, and building a beautiful home and joyful life together. Hase was always able to make her smile. Yvonne embodied determination, strength and grace with a strong intellect, sharp wit, and sparkling smile. She touched many lives during her career and through her friendships and her extended family, and she will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carolynn Collins. She is survived by Hase Kovic, her daughters, Suzanne and Sherry, and their husbands, Mark Lobodzinski and Stephen Byington, by her grandson, Bradley Byington, and by her brother, Jeff R. Ferguson, Jr., and her sister, JoAnn Hartford.
A visitation for Yvonne will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, Texas 77008. Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM. Committal service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr, Houston, Texas 77055.
