Barbara Anderson, 77, of Ardmore, Alabama, peacefully left us to be in the presence of God on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. She was born on July 8, 1948, and grew up in Hazel Green, Alabama. She was the daughter of Buford and Annie Billings, who both passed away when she was very young. She was lovingly raised by her uncle Lawrence and Ellie Ashby (whom we all referred to as Aunt Elle) and shared life with her sisters, Rosa (Church), Judy (Billions), and Carol (Fortenberry), and her brother, Marshall “Pete” (Batt). She is preceded in death by her parents, aunt, uncle, and brother.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Donald W. Anderson; three sons, Paul (Jennifer), Darryl (Tracy), and Mark; six grandchildren: Shelby, Tyler, Alan, David, Jacob, and Alison; and four great-grandchildren: Cooper, Cayden, Ty, and Tatum.
We all called her Nana. She would frequently compose handwritten cards for fellow church members and others to celebrate a recent birth, offer a quick thank you, or express sympathy during times of bereavement. Her grandchildren fondly remember spending time with her working on arts and crafts, her talent for always coloring within the lines, and enjoying hot cocoa made on the stove, poppy seed chicken casserole, hot dogs with pork and beans, and chocolate sandwiches.
Barbara will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, Nana, and great-grandmother who was selfless and always had a kind word for everyone she met.
We will celebrate her life at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive guests from 1:00–3:00 p.m.
