Carl is my cousin. The family photo of him on Facebook with two other children is me and my brother Raphael (Ray). We are so sorry to learn of Carl’s passing. He was always telling us funny jokes. He was very musically inclined. He loved to play the (I think it was the bass fiddle) & piano. My heart and soul is full of compassion for you and family.

I remember the first time we met Carl at John and Deanna's house for a New Year's Eve Party some years ago; I remember sharing a glass of Johnny Walker Blue with him that night and sharing memories.  He made us feel like family from the moment we met him and every other time our paths crossed.  He was such a gracious, classy, and sharp dressed man (Eva too).  Our thought and prayers go out to Eva, John, Deanna, and Zach.  You will be missed.

Eva, John, Deanna , Zach and to the family and friends I don’t know. I’m lifting you all up In  prayer  during this great time of loss.   I know that the grief  is heavy.  However, In time you will once again be able to remember all of the wonderful times you enjoyed with Carl. What an abundant life you have had. I have only met with Carl a couple of times and I think of how inspirational that time was. I loved his zeal for his music and his gift of being hospitable . God gifted him greatly with musical talent and a true love of people. He will be greatly missed but I’m sure he is joining in all of the musical opportunities of his heavenly home. I am blessed to not only to have known Mr. Carl Sanders but to hear the countless stories attesting to how his first class character demonstrated the love of God. Reading through the testimonies and talking with his family and many friends, I am reminded of:

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 7:20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. And,

John 13:35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.

But even more so, I am blessed to know firsthand that he genuinely understood who God is, His divine nature. I am privileged to have fellowshipped and conversed with him on matters such as grace, mercy and faith nearly each time we met. We discussed great verses such as Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1. 

In the spirit of Romans 10:9 he passionately witnessed that: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” 

While saddened and in grief by our loss, I take great comfort and joy knowing I will see him again as my brother in Christ singing the praises of the Lord with the angels in heaven.


I am not able to be there today show you all my love I will miss you I remember times we used to sit downstairs and listen just some good Blues with a glass of whiskey and Mom I would say that's enough you guys I'm going to bed and you would say I'm just having a little shot but we ended up having quite a few shots I won't forget those times now you have gone to the  Big house in the sky.You are probably having a garlic wisky with Clovis I will go burn a candle for you this afternoon. Rest in peace my friend and I'm sure if there's a stereo system up there you will show them the right way look it up watch over us my friend your memory will not fade because every time I listen to Johnny Lee Hooker I will see you face goodbye my friend Charlie or as used to call me Big C

Although our time together with Carl has been a vapor (2013-2019) our friendship will last a lifetime and Carl will forever be in our hearts. The dapper man who inspired me to start back dressing (Smile), and our life long love for " Jazz Music", I will never forget. Dear Eva, John, Deanna and Zach; words, hugs, thoughts and gestures cannot began to absorb the loss of such a beautiful person as Carl. He truly was that ambassador of kindness, generosity,  true friendship and just  a good hearted man. Eva, the love that Carl had for you was that, which the Lord commanded. To this day I can still hear Carl saying things like "Mama said this, and I gotta make sure Mama is ok". May God continue to comfort all of you and give you and your family peace as Carl transitions back to the hands of the Lord.

My husband, Gary and I met Carl and Eva about 4 years ago when we moved into their neighborhood.  We were honored to be a guest in their home several times. What a loving couple - genteel with a wonderful sense of humor!  Carl was always so friendly and welcoming and loved to talk about his cars.  And he was always "dressed to the nines".  (Eva too!) Whenever we were out walking our dog, we loved to stop and talk with Carl. He was so polite and funny.  We both feel honored to have known Carl. He will be greatly missed. Eva, John, Deanna and Zach are in our prayers! 

My great uncle Carl you exemplify to me what a strong man a loving husband and a good father should be.   I give God all praise for placing such a positive role model in my life.    I  enjoyed the times we really got to talk it seemed like I needed to catch up for the years  you lived oversees.     So much I learned from you and about you has me today with a smile  .     Our family foundation  is strong and I promise I will educate ,encourage, teach, preach, praise and keep love and laughter  in our hearts.    Until we reunite again  I love you uncle carl

I hope you find comfort in knowing that the one you love and I loved so much is now peacefully at rest with God. I will miss my friend but not the good memories we had together. There's always a sense of disbelief and deep sorrow which no one could ever be prepared for when you lose a love one and a dear friend. Wednesday 13. February was a day of great sorrow also in Norway, when we got the message that Carl has passed away. Of course we knew that he had been sick for some time, but we hoped and prayed that he would recover after his surgery. Our hope and prayers was unfortunately not heard, and we feel so sorry that this fine gentleman has left us. We have only good memories from our time with Carl, and we think back with pleasure, at all meetings and talks with this very kind and humble man. We should very much liked to be with you now, but Norway is far away from Alabama, and age and health problems makes it difficult, so we are sorry that our participation’s only has to be in this way. Our thoughts goes to Eva, John, Deanna and Zach, and we can only say that we are feeling with you, in your great loss. Thank you Carl, for letting us knowing you.

Loving memories of my Beloved Uncle Carl
I was extremely blessed to have Uncle Carl in my life.  He was indeed a very loving and well-loved patriarch of our family.  Uncle Carl was always excited about the accomplishments of his family, even taking care to encourage and contribute to their success.  Although he lived oversees most of our life, he always maintained a special bond with our family and remained attentive and loving.   I had the privilege of visiting him and Aunt Eva on my first European vacation and in usual Carl and Eva grand style; it was a wonderful experience-one that is forever emblazoned in my heart.  I was especially happy when he decided to retire close to Atlanta.  We could have more frequent visitations and the opportunity to participate in many special celebrations, which included Uncle Carl’s recent 80th birthday.  
I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to be a part of his health journey and to be with him on the day of his surgery. During my last hug with him, as I was leaving to return home, he told me that he loved and appreciated me so much.  I will forever remember that day and that embrace.  Our bond was very special to me and one I will always cherish. 
In 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18, we are encouraged about the time we may all be reunited and see Uncle Carl again.   Although it may be difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, looking back on his memory and his love for each of you can help comfort you in the days to come. He will always be in our hearts as we remember who he was and the  love he gave.   We must celebrate his love and giving spirit in the way we live our life so we can all reunite on that special day!

Beyond being of the coolest cats I ever met, uncle Carl was a symbol of what a man should be. He was smooth, he was talented, he was personable, he was an excellent communicator, he had an infectious chuckle, and he loved his wife. I mean loved her hard. I’ll be lucky if I find a women that I can love that hard. 
From the first time I met him on a trip with my sister Rio to Belgium. Uncle Carl was so full of energy, so full of life. I’ll never forget sitting in his living room sampling all the German and Belgian beers I could, slowly moving up the abv scale. The guy could drink me under the table no question. He told us stories, made us laugh, played us so much beautiful jazz music, and took us on a tour of the city. 
It’s difficult to say just how you feel after a loss like this. Death regardless of how common it is, never feels natural. Carl was a young man full of life up until the time his body could no longer keep up. Being with him at the family reunion a few years ago was like being with my grandmother Ethel all over again. The love in the room every time he entered was tangible, it was electric, is was refreshing. There was never anyone like him, and there will never be another like him. 
It is said, the best thing we can leave behind in this life are fond memories.  Memories that our loved ones will cherish until their bodies also give out on them. We can’t take anything with us, but we can leave behind a trail of love. Uncle Carl touched all of us, and we honor him now on this platform, and in the way we conduct ourselves as members of this family. If I can be half the man uncle Carl was for his wife, for his son, and for his family, I will hopefully one day leave behind me a trail of love as well

Carl was the smoothest in his attire, walk and talk.  He was known for his happy go lucky attitude towards all.   Carl, who worked in transportation for years, assisted hundreds of thousands of U.S. family members in getting, settled in Belgium.  He ensured that incoming and outgoing families were cared for.  No stone was left unturned when caring for anyone who needed his help.  One of his best lines was “I’ll take care of that.” 

  Gosh he had one heck of an audio system.  He always had the best of the best.

Carl was a dedicated family man.  Mommy and Johnny were always his priority.
We witnessed their love to each other; the laughter, the bickering, the teasing each other; worries and concerns for one another. We all know what true love looks like.

 John once stated that I remind him of his pops.  Now ain’t that just too cool.  I am working on it.  

Go play that bass brother in the sky with your good friend Tom D. on guitar and Dexter on Sax. You are always in our hearts, memories and souls.

We are very sorry that due to circumstances after all these years we have not come to your house in New Market

Carl was more than a friend, he was a dear friend, a fellow military man who had served his country for decades, a legend at SHAPE Headquarters in Belgium as he knew virtually everyone, a kind and friendly man, a gentleman by any definition of that word, an impeccable dresser, a musician, a lover of jazz, but most importantly, a dedicated and loving husband and father.  I will never forget Carl and neither will any of you . . . so let us not mourn him but let his upcoming memorial service  be a day for rejoicing and thanksgiving, a day wherein each of us THANKS GOD ALMIGHTY for the life of Carl Sanders and what he meant to us all. As we think of Uncle Carl we are struck by two ascepts of his life, his love for his family and his music.  He was generous in sharing both his family and his passion for music.  As a devoted husband with Aunt Eva at his side he was happy and content on all the occasions we met.  The pride he took in Johnny, his family, life, and success was beyond words.  We keep him in our memories as our kind and loving family Patriarch. While we now feel the loss of his love and affections, we hold the Christian hope dear that we will meet him again.  We rest assured that God longs for the work of his hands - to bring back to Life those we treasure and miss so dearly.  It was my pleasure to meet Carl and Eva Sanders in Belgium.  I found him to be a genuinely warm & welcoming person. I know the family will miss him, but there will be a great Resurrection morning and we can look forward to seeing him again.

A life well lived... you certainly accomplished that Uncle Carl. Regardless of how much time had passed between the times that we talked,  you had the unique ability to make me feel loved and appreciated each time.

Uncle Carl was blessed with many gifts but the greatest of them all was the ability to love so graciously and with such joy. 

I was so grateful that we had the opportunity to celebrate your life at the Reunited Reunion.  It was such a special time and will always stand out as my most favorite memory of you.

It was a pleasure to meet my "look-a-like" in Stone Mountain, GA in June of 2017.  He wanted to make sure we had our picture taken together.  I enjoyed our conversation.  Sorry to learn the news of his passing.

A GOOD NAME...
Carl Sanders, a true Gentleman!
 Proverbs 22:1 says, "a good name is to be chosen rather than great wealth; to be respected is better than silver and gold". 
 I don't know if Uncle Carl was an advid Bible reader or not, we never talked about that. But his actions spoke loudly. My impression? His consistent actions displayed an application of Bible principles.
 I got the impression through out my life,  that Uncle Carl somehow, knew,  the Bible was far more than a book about religion, but a trustworthy guidebook for life.  
For example, consider what the Bible says in Psalms 15. In answer to the question, " who may be a guest
in (God's) tent?"...
"the one who is practicing what is right and speaking truth in his heart.  He does not slander...he does nothing bad to his neighbor, he does not defame his friends.  He rejects anyone contemptible...he does not go back on his promise, even when it's bad for him...and he does not accept a bribe."  Now
Would'nt you say, that sounds like Uncle Carl?  He EARNED RESPECT! Yes, a true GentleMAN.  It is indeed with great admiration and respect that I write....love Cetta

Eva, Johnny and family,
Certainly the loss of your dearest Carl is painful.  Delores (Dee), Me and the Proctor family share in your grief.  Praise God that he reunited us again for Carl's 80th birthday.  It was like we had never been apart even though it had been 65 years since we had seen each other.

When I asked Carl if he had a Church home he said, no but reminded me when we as children went to our community church in Altgeld Gardens.  He also told me he was a believer and loved the Lord.

What a good, warm and gentle man he was, and Carl truly love his family and friends.  We will miss Carl as much as you loved him
