Ernestine Gwin Anderson

On Saturday June 21, 2025, Heaven gained a bright new angel as we lost our beloved Ernestine Anderson who passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was born on July 30, 1930 in Searles, Alabama, one of six children to Raymond and Bertha McFerrin Gwin. Ernestine was a 1949 graduate of Brookwood High School and she met and married the love of her life, Neal B. Anderson, on August 28,1951.

Ernestine and Neal lived a very happy life, being in the Army took them to many places including three tours in Germany. Neal’s untimely death from a tragic burning accident in November 2018 left a hole in her heart. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

With no children of their own, at the time of Neal’s accident his first cousin, who was more like a brother, Phil Teer promised Neal he would take care of Ernestine upon his passing. Phil lived up to his promise without hesitation and with joy in his heart. He took very good care of Ernestine, making sure all her needs were met.

Ernestine would not leave Huntsville, so she lived at Regency Retirement Village. First in independent living, then to assisted living and eventually memory care. In January she was moved to Sharedcare and she adored her nurse, Patrick Treece. Not only did she receive excellent care at Regency, being a lifelong believer, she became a Christian and was baptized so we know without a doubt she is with our Lord.

We want to take a moment to thank everyone who has loved and taken care of our precious Ernestine.

A visitation for Ernestine will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home (Huntsville), 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, AL 35811. Following the visitation will be a Graveside Service at 1:00 pm at Valhalla Memory Gardens at the Chapel of Love Mausoleum.
