Ervin Edward Thovson, 82, of Harvest, Alabama, was born on October 27, 1943, in Elmore, Minnesota, to the late George and Alice Thovson, and passed away on May 20, 2026, at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville, Alabama. He will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude for a life marked by steadfast devotion to family and country, and for the quiet strength and dignity with which he carried himself throughout the years.
Ervin proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, answering the call of duty with honor and commitment—an enduring reflection of the values he lived by and the example he set for those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Scott Edward (April) Thovson; daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Thovson; grandchildren, Laura Brittany (Caleb) Ray, Rebecca Kristine (Rob) Kane, Brett Reimer Thovson, Andrew Scott (Emily) Thovson, Zachary Theodore (Elizabeth) Thovson, and Daniel Scott Barnes; great-grandchildren, Sarah Grace Thovson, Autumn Faith Ray, Ellison Hope Ray, Daniel Michael Kane, Ruby Loveland Ray, Titus John Kane, Chip Robert Kane, Reece James Kane, and Harper Gayle Thovson; and his sister, Sharon Herfandahl.
Visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811, on Sunday, May 24, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. A committal service will take place at Valhalla Memory Gardens immediately following the service.
