

Fannie Lou peacefully passed away on August 14, 2020 from Alzheimer’s Disease. Fannie was born in Limrock, Alabama on February 22, 1932 to Horace and Bessie Doe “Ellie” Reed Shelton. Fannie loved her Lord and church community. She was a lifelong member of Jackson Way Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. Fannie actively participated in Sunday School, Wednesday night dinners, choir, and mission trips. She also worked in the church nursery and as a preschool assistant teacher. Fannie was an avid cook, baker, and seamstress. She loved cooking Sunday dinner for her family and fried pies for her church family. She hosted large family gatherings at her home to celebrate special holidays. Fannie received an Associate Degree in Business and worked as a bookkeeper for Huntsville Country Club, John Blue Company, Giles and Kendall Cedar Lumber Mill, and Dyke’s Restaurant Supply.
Fannie is preceded in death by her parents and both of her beloved husbands, Aaron Vann and Orian Mitchell; as well as her siblings, Christine Gibson, Shelby Shelton, S.Q. Shelton, Bessie Lindsey, Betty Hall, Billy Shelton, Ruth Lamb and Lorene Joiner. She is survived by her brother, Horace Shelton; her children, Rebecca Vann Gregory (George), Joseph Pohuski (Linda Reynolds); her bonus children, Anita Vann Low (Peter), Dian Vann Foshee, Marie Mitchell, Janice Mitchell-Honeycutt (Wayne), Jennifer Mitchell Johnson (Mike); her grandchildren, Rose, Heather and Isaac Gregory, Stephen and Brian Pohuski (Patty) and Lisa Foshee Smith (Jon); great grandchildren, Madison Pohuski, Mason Smith and Tanner Smith.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 1:00pm at Huntsville Memory Gardens under the direction of Valhalla Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association or Jackson Way Baptist Church.
