Mr. Fred Burton Godsey

FRED BURTON GODSEY May 15, 1929 – July 8, 2016 Fred B. Godsey, 87, passed away peacefully at Decatur Hospital on Friday morning surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Godsey was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eunice Combs Godsey; and his loving wife of 47 years, Maria; one brother, Joe Godsey; and one granddaughter, Jessica Pape. Left to cherish his memory is his 2 daughters, Diane Brightwell (Earl) and Sandra Pape; 3 grandsons, Justin Pape (Jennifer), Jason Brightwell (Tiffany) and Jonathan Brightwell (Alicia); 4 great-grandchildren, Brantley, Grayson, Emily, and Elijah; and a host of other relatives and friends. Fred was educated in engineering and worked in the automotive industry with Chrysler for close to 40 years. He was a master mason and an avid golfer. He also enjoyed traveling, learning about other cultures and made numerous trips to other countries. He loved the outdoors and took great joy in working in his yard. Fred loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and really enjoyed spending his time with them. Fred was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him! You may gather with the family at Valhalla Funeral Home for a memorial service on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 commencing at 2:00PM in Valhalla’s Chapel.
