Garrett Townsend Hicks Sr.

Garrett Townsend Hicks of Harvest AL passed away at his home on Sunday, January 5th with his beloved wife, Peggy Hicks by his side. Garrett or “Gary” as he was known, was born on December 2, 1934 in Glen Cove NY on Long Island. He was preceded in death by his former wife; Ingrid K. Hicks, his father; Robert Hicks, mother; Evelyn Hicks Carpenter, and 3 brothers; Bobby, Harry and Kenny.

Gary is survived by his wife Peggy, brother Richard (Dick), 4 daughters; Beverly Broomes of Pensacola FL, Mary Anne Chesser of Huntsville AL, Angela Stirling of Harvest AL, Rebecca White of Merritt Island FL, his son; Garrett “Butch” Hicks Jr. of Ponce Inlet FL, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Gary was a proud veteran who served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1956. Gary had a 39 year career with the Chrysler Corporation and progressed from electrical technician to Chief Engineering Manager. He was involved with the Mercury Redstone and Saturn 1B/Gemini/Apollo space programs in Huntsville and Cape Canaveral. After those programs were completed, he worked on automotive electrical systems and was the Chief Engineering Manager for Chrysler in Huntsville, retiring in 1997.

Services for Gary will be held at Valhalla Funeral in the Celebration Chapel on Wednesday, Jan 8, 2025 with visitation for family to begin at 11:30 am, and at 12 noon for friends. His memorial service will be held in the chapel at 1:00 pm followed by a brief graveside service at Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
