Harden “Bill” Randolph Wesley was born to the late Eugene Wesley, Sr. and Annie Lee Harmon Wesley on January 19, 1935 in Talladega, Alabama, the fourth of ten children.
After graduating from East High School in Columbus, Ohio, he continued his studies at Alabama State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. Additionally, he advanced his education with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Alabama A&M University.
Following his move to Huntsville, Alabama, Bill was united in holy matrimony to Doris Thomas Wesley. He and his wife were aligned in the Christian faith and were members of Holy Cross- St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. They were blessed with two daughters – Sharon and Crystal Wesley.
Throughout his lifetime, Bill labored in many unique capacities. He worked in Upward Bound while attaining his higher education; he performed as a firefighter (one of the first two black firefighters in the city of Huntsville, Alabama); he taught elementary education in the Madison County school system for three years; he managed and operated his own business, Wesley Cleaning Services, until 2011 and he completed 35 years of dedicated service in various roles for the Department of Defense on Redstone Arsenal before retiring in 2013.
Likewise, Bill contributed time and service to many civic and military pursuits. He provided over 21 years of combined service in the United States Air Force, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. Furthermore, he was a member of the Supreme Council of America – Masons, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and a lifelong blood donor to the American Red Cross.
God called Bill to eternal peace on March 13th. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 49 years, Doris Wesley; daughters: Sharon Wesley, Atlanta, GA and Crystal Wesley, Madison, AL; sister Ethel Grace Hightower, Chicago, IL; brothers: Edward Wesley and Archie Wesley, Sr. (Shirley), Talladega, AL; Warren Wesley, Atlanta, GA; Clyde Wesley, Brooklyn, NY; and Olan Louis Wesley (Alma), Montgomery, AL; nieces and nephews; countless relatives and friends, and his favorite pal “Bailey.”
