Johnnie E Birchfield

Johnnie E Birchfield, age 85, of Carthage, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Johnnie was born in Millington, Tennessee on October 6th, 1937. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Epps; stepfather Jesse Crenshaw; brother, Otis Crenshaw and wife, Betty Sue Birchfield.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, John Birchfield (Debbie), Tracy Birchfield (Nova); grandchildren, Sean Birchfield, Jessica Birchfield, Carl Birchfield and Joseph Birchfield.

Johnnie served his country with the US Air Force as a photographer. Johnnie spent 18 months in the combat zone of the former Republic of Vietnam, was a permanent Aircrewman and was awarded the Air Medal and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor device. The character of his service and his devotion to duty earned him the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, the Meritorious Service Medal and multiple commendation and achievement medals. Johnnie retired after thirty years of service to the US Air Force.

In addition to photography, Johnnie was an avid fisherman, handyman, intramural softball player and youth baseball coach. Later in life Johnnie tended to his lawn and vegetable gardens.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

A visitation for Johnnie will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Valhalla Memory Gardens - Chapel of Love Mausoleum, 698 Winchester Road, Huntsville, Alabama 35811, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
