

Mr. Lewis Edward Putman, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, at home in Gurley, Alabama. Born on October 3, 1936, in Madison, Alabama, he lived a long and full life rooted in family, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and a devoted Christian.
Lewis dedicated much of his professional life to the telecommunications and engineering industries. He retired from both AT&T Telephone Company and Teledyne Brown Engineering, where he contributed his skills and work ethic over many years.
At the heart of Lewis’s life was his family. He shared 67 devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife Polly Putman. Together they raised three sons: Edward, Jason, and Clint.
Lewis is survived by his wife Polly and Sons Edward (Tracey) Putman and Jason(Kathy) Putman; he also leaves behind his daughter-in-law Patti Putman; grandchildren Frank Putman, John Putman, Mattie (Blake) Moat, and Taylor Putman; and sister-in-law Dot Putman. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews. He also had great neighbors that he thought a lot of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Clara Putman. His Son Clint Putman and a daughter in law Beth Putman.
Lewis found great joy in spending time outdoors. He especially loved hunting and fishing with his boys—pastimes that brought him both peace and connection with those he loved most. His passion extended to tending a large garden each year and cultivating flowers with care and pride.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Visitation will be held on August 21, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home 698 Winchester Rd NE Huntsville. The Service will be following the Visitation and burial at Valhalla.
Pallbearers will be Frank Putman, John Putman, Blake Moat, Taylor Putman and Brian Calvert.
We would like to thank the Amedisys Hospice Group that took great care of Lewis in his time of need. They were great.
