

Raymond Hitt, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on March 9, 2026. He was a man known for his quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for his family, his country, and God.
Raymond was born to Audrey Etheridge and James Hitt and was the middle child of three. He was preceded in death by his older brother, James Lamar Hitt, who passed away at the age of 15. He is survived by his baby sister, Nora Nix.
Raymond shared nearly 57 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Marsha Andrews Hitt. Their partnership was a testament to devotion, friendship, and enduring love. Together they built a beautiful family and life centered around faith and commitment.
He was a proud father to two children, Matthew Hitt and Alicia Hitt-Goolsby, who carry forward his values of integrity, hard work, and kindness. Raymond was also a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren: Emily Hitt, Adam Hitt, Ryan Hitt, Lauren Hitt, Garrett Goolsby, Graham Goolsby, Madeleine Goolsby, and Benjamin Goolsby. His grandchildren were a great source of pride and joy in his life.
Raymond graduated from Mississippi State University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Early in his career, he had the extraordinary opportunity to contribute to one of the most historic moments in human history, working with NASA during the Apollo 11 manned flight to the moon.
Throughout his career, Raymond was a highly respected engineer in the natural gas industry, known for his intelligence, steady work ethic, and thoughtful approach to solving complex problems. He built a successful professional life through dedication, humility, and perseverance.
Those who knew Raymond will remember him as a laid-back, kindhearted man whose calm presence and gentle spirit made others feel at ease. He lived his life with quiet faith, strong principles, and a deep love for those around him.
Raymond’s legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched along the way.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
