Robert “Bob” Maloney passed away peacefully on 4 August 2022 at the young age of 85 with his wife Maggie and family beside him. He had been suffering from a long illness. He was born in the Bronx and a faithful member of the Catholic church. He retired from the Army as a Military Policeman with multiple tours in Vietnam and Germany. He was a long time member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus. True to his NY background, he never lost his Bronx accent or his wicked sense of humor, but always was the “nicest guy in the world”. He is survived by his wife, Maggie and a host of family and friends. Through marriage he gained children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren he thought he would never have. During the past 11 years, he became “Grand Bob” to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who would welcome him during their trips to San Antonio, Germany, and New Mexico.
During Bob’s early life he supported his family always. He earned every penny and began working at a Jewish butcher shop when he was 15 and quit school. He got his GED in the military and was promoted to the rank of E-8 before he retired. His first Wife Evelyn died in 2010, after 49 years of marriage.
He loved music especially Abba’s Mama Mia, Clannad, and Celtic Women. He was a foreign born (in the heart) Irishman. He loved with a passion, lived life fully, and gave generously. Truly an American Hero. He was patient, kind, trusting, and had the 100-year memory.
Bob and Maggie were married in 2011 spending time in Hawaii, Disney World, New York, along with some cruising, and they visited family often.
Bob joined Maggie’s family for just a short time however, left memories for many generations. Thank you, Evelyn, for sharing your husband and now it is time for him to join you once again to spend eternity.
Love isn’t love until you give it away…but darn it hurts.
A visitation for Robert will be held Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. A funeral mass will occur Monday, August 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2300 Beasley Ave NW, Huntsville, AL.
