

Thelma Jean Carter, 79, passed from this life on December 22, 2016. Preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Carter, Sr.; brothers, John Dyer, Rule Dyer and Cornelius Dyer; sister, Madge "Sunshine" Newton.
Jean grew up in East Tennessee and met her husband there. They soon moved to Huntsville, where she thrived as a mother and homemaker. She was a strong and independent woman who always put others before herself. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help someone. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life.
In her later years she loved to be the "neighborhood watch" from her chair in her garage. She enjoyed going out to dinner, gardening and feeding the neighborhood birds. She loved all of nature and being outside.
Survived by two sons, William Ray Carter, Jr.(Barbara), Jimmy W Carter (Sandy); daughter, Kim Barnett (Terry), 7 grandchildren, Justin Carter (Alison), Jeremy Carter (Kyllie), Morgan Scott (Chris), Jason Carter (Brooke), Megan Cobbs (Robert), Matthew Carter (Marlee) and Travis Barnett; 6 Great-grandchildren, Sara Carter, Will Carter, Sam Carter, Cooper Carter, Madison Scott and Stella Carter. She was blessed with special friends, Brenda Haislip, Betty Carter, Bea Booth, Joan Warsaw, Ellen Holder and Wanda Young.
Pall bearers will be Justin Carter , Jeremy Carter , Jason Carter, Matthew Carter, Travis Barnett and Robert Cobbs.
The visitation will be Saturday, December 24, 2016 from 12:00pm until 1 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home. Services to follow at 1:00pm in Valhalla Funeral Home’s Chapel. Officiated by Michael Mclemore.
