

William B. Sevey, age 98, born May 13, 1919, passed away August 23, 2017 at Redstone Village in Huntsville AL. Lt Col. Sevey, a native of Lawton, OK, retired from the US Army after 28 years of service. He served in World War II and the Korean conflict, was awarded three Bronze Stars, Joint Service Meritorious Medal, 10 Battle Stars, plus others. He later retired from Civil Service in 1981 after working 13 years at the US Army Missile Command in Huntsville. He was a member of the Hope Presbyterian Church, past president of the 45th Infantry Division Association, a member of the 157th Infantry Regiment Association, and the 9th Ordinance Battalion Association (Korea). He began his Army career in February 1941, serving two years in Europe. He attained the rank of First Sgt. in 1942 and served in the157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. His career included tours of duty In Sicily, Italy, France and Germany thru the end of WWII in 1945 when he was discharged. He was called back to active duty as an officer in 1950. He served in the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1953, two tours of duty in Germany from 1954 to 1957 and 1960 to 1964; and in 1966 in Korea. He retired in 1967 as a Lt. Col. with 26 years of service. In 1968, he began working for the US Army Missile Command, and retired in 1981. He is predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Bernice Sevey; daughter, Barbara Sokolosky; parents, Alan and Virginia Sevey; brother, Herbie Sevey; and sister, Anita Schnee. He is survived by his son, William B. Sevey, Jr.; sister, Mary Mohrweiss; three grandchildren, two step-grandsons, 8 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 10:00am until 11:00am with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00am at Valhalla Funeral Home.
