RET 1SG Willie Godwin Finney Sr.

Mr. Willie G Finney, Sr., 94 of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on October 28, 2022. Willie was born in Barns Station, VA on July 13, 1928. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Edward Finney Sr., his mother Beatrice Ann Finney, his brothers, Thomas Edward Finney, Jr, Horace Finney, Vernon Finney, his sisters Gertrude Morris, Olivia Ulrey, Blanch Canter, his daughter Donna Finney, granddaughter Diana Finney, grandson Christopher Finney, great-grandson Connor McCulley, great-granddaughter, Reagan Ruth Peavy.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Neri R Finney, his sister Vivian Bass, his children, Willie Finney, Jr, (Teri), Doreese Finney, Frederick Finney, Irene Crowell, Beatrice Bragg, (Chuck), Sara Hulsey (Steve) and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Willie was a Retired Veteran of the US Army which he served for 32 years. He received several distinguished medals while serving, including the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (5 Campaigns); Bronze Star Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Korea-Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation; Army Commendation Medal; Expert Rifle Marksmanship. He also retired from the Huntsville Times where he served in the circulation department. Since retiring here in Huntsville, you could find Willie outside taking care of his yard, he loved being outside.

A Visitation for Willie will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811, followed by a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 12:00pm in Valhalla's Celebration Chapel. Interment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens in the Garden of Valor with Full Military Honors.
