Chittaranjan Narandas Nirmel, 83, world traveler, engineer, lawyer, inventor, father, brother, uncle, ex-husband, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022, after a valiant battle with mesothelioma.
He was preceded in death by his parents Narandas and Jaya, sisters Vatsula and Madhu, brother Bharat, and nephew Sandip.
Chitta is loved and missed by his son Andre, ex-wife Kari Jahr, brothers Krishna, Ashok (Sarita), and Pradip (Fen), his nephews and niece, and many friends around the world.
His interests included world travel, politics, reading, cooking, and enjoying nature.
Chitta’s broad education included a bachelor’s degree from Battersea College in London, a master’s and PhD from NC State University, and a JD and LLM from New York University. He combined his two fields of study and became a patent attorney who obtained several patents of his own.
His family appreciates the care given by the surgeons, doctors, nurses, hospice staff, and others throughout the course of his illness.
Chitta supported the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests a contribution to the hospital. Please see the attached link.
