He joined the Navy at age 18, serving in WW II overseas on several islands in the pacific. After his service he attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and met his future wife Doris JoAnn Klepinger. They were married in 1950 for 66 years. JoAnn passed in 2017.
During their early years of marriage, Dallas and JoAnn lived in numerous cities while he served as a branch manager for Owens-Illinois Glass Company. Cities included Toledo, Houston, San Antonio, Peoria, Chicago, and New Orleans. In 1976 they moved to Carmel Indiana where they quickly became involved in the community.
Dallas, while on the family farm always dreamed of traveling the world. He told the story of working the horse and wagon and listening to the train whistle in the distance wondering where it was heading. So, in 1979, he and JoAnn started “The Travel Agent, Inc.” which has continued to exist for 44 years under the guidance of son Mark Moorhead.
Dallas visited ALL the continents of the world. He trekked across the Silk Route of China, sleeping on mats and tents for 2 weeks. He visited deep forests of India, Cambodia, Thailand and stayed with tribes of Borneo. Cruising to Antarctica was a special place for him.
Dallas was also an avid fisherman, fishing literally ALL OVER THE WORLD! Patagonia, Alaska, bone fish in the Bahamas, Cook Islands in the Pacific and Marlin fishing in Cabo San Lucas. Even the jungles of the Amazon for Peacock Bass! He also loved to snow ski and did so on both his 90th and 91st birthday with his good group of friends, “The Dirty Dozen.” He remains an inspiration to all that know him.
Dallas is the last surviving member of his immediate family of 6 siblings. He is survived by his children Mark Dallas Moorhead (Wanda), Jeffrey Alan Moorhead, and Jennifer Moorhead Parkerson (Bruce) and grandchildren Dallas Hodd Moorhead III, (Melinda), Partick William Moorhead (Sarah), Erica Beth Moorhead, Ross Parkerson (Annie), Stirling Parkerson (Elizabeth), and Sarah Parkerson as well as great-grandchildren.
