Dorothy A. & Charles R. "Chuck" Jones

From high school sweethearts to death do us part, Dorothy and Chuck were married 62 years on June 17th, 2023.

Dorothy, 80, of Indianapolis departed this life Tuesday, June 20, 2023. She was born September 3, 1942 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late George and Anna (Szurek) Fary. She grew up and attended schools there, and in addition to raising her own family, she had also worked for the American Cancer Society, Marcus Auto Leasing, and Accelerated Sales & Leadership (Jennifer & Jeff’s business) in administrative roles. Dorothy was a kind and spirited soul who put the needs of others first. She loved making meaningful memories with family and friends and was happiest with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed crafting and painting ceramics with her dear friend, JoAnn Noce, the latest electronic gadgets, reading Danielle Steele, relaxing with a favorite gameshow or Hallmark movie on TV and rarely passing on an opportunity to play cards. She also enjoyed spending some of her retirement years at their home in Auburndale, FL, playing dominos and card games with beautiful friends they made in their community.

Chuck, 84, of Indianapolis departed this life just 40 hours after Dorothy, on Saturday, June 24, 2023. He was born January 23, 1939 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Charles R. Jones, Sr. and Ann E. (Kozuch) Jones. He too grew up and attended schools in East Chicago and had worked for Indiana Bell / AT&T for 30 years, retiring at the age of 55. Chuck was previously a member of Lion’s International. He relaxed playing golf in FL and fishing at their lake house on Barbee Lake in Warsaw, IN. He loved taking his wife for “rides” in the car - without a destination, and always knew a “short cut”. He never missed an Indiana University basketball or football game or the Chicago Bears on TV. He especially loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather and had immense pride and joy in each one of them. And, most importantly, he devoted his life to loving and serving Dorothy in every way he could to the very end.

Dorothy and Chuck are survived by their loving and devoted children, Jennifer (Jeff) Hines, Richard (Julie) Jones and Kim Schuler; their cherished grandchildren, Kaitlin (John) Pennington, Kristen Hines, Collin Schuler, Zack Jones, Charlie Schuler; beloved great-grandchildren, Will, Charlotte and Emmy; dear brother-in-law, Ed (Joan) Beatty, Christina Reister, goddaughter and devoted niece, a host of dear friends, treasured nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family in “The Region”.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Beatty and brothers, Ray and Ed Fary.

Liturgy Service for Dorothy and Chuck will begin at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 15th, 2023 at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel in Indianapolis, with visitation to follow and concluding at 5:00 pm. Inurnment will be on Monday, July 17th at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home in Crown Point, with service and visitation beginning at 11:00 am and concluding at 1:00pm.
