

Dorothy Anne Fromhold Kaufman, 97, passed away November 25, 2018. Born December 13, 1920 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Albert J. Fromhold and Emma C. (Bailey) Fromhold, she was the youngest of three Fromhold girls. A 1939 graduate of St. Agnes Academy and a Butler University student, she married her lifelong love Louis Wilbur Kaufman on June 19, 1943.
An active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for 48 years, Dorothy was the parish’s first woman to become an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister. In August, 1976, she attended the 41st International Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the future St. Pope John Paul II was in attendance, as well as Mother Teresa, now St. Teresa of Calcutta. She again saw St. Pope John Paul II in October, 1979, when he visited Chicago.
Prior to raising her family, Dorothy worked at the Wm. H. Block department store, Bridgeport Brass Company, and Naval Ordnance Indianapolis. She loved staying in touch with lifelong friends, as well as more recent ones. She enjoyed bowling, reading, bridge, traveling and visiting family. She was a member of various groups, such as the Discussion Club which she’d belonged to since her days as a St. Joan of Arc parishioner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 50 years, as well as her sister Emma Blanche Wilson. She is survived by her sister Mary Elizabeth (Bee) Bowman, five children James Christopher (Sheila), Gloria (Graham) Bond, Dorothy (Gilbert) Riley, Lawrence (Lori), and Mark (Karin), ten grandchildren and numerous and much-loved great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, November 30 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Leppert Mortuary, 740 East 86th St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1 at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 5692 Central Avenue. Interment will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens immediately following Mass.
