He was devoted to his family. He coached and attended countless sporting events in support of his children and grandchildren. He was passionate about sharing his faith and relished time spent with family.
Ed demonstrated a strong work ethic from an early age, beginning with delivering newspapers in the second grade. He funded his high school and college education by working in grocery stores and a metal shop. Ed began his professional career in management with Kroger, and then pursued opportunities in the accounting field as a CPA. He was a partner with various accounting firms, retiring from Umbaugh and Associates. Ed worked with many Indiana cities, towns, and utilities to raise funds for capital improvements. A notable contribution he made to his field was championing an alternative funding strategy for equitable cost sharing, now a standard practice.
Ed had a passion for Notre Dame throughout his life. He also cheered for his hometown teams including the Indianapolis Indians, Indiana Pacers, and the Indianapolis Colts. He enjoyed playing volleyball with his lifelong friends, duplicate bridge, numerous games with his extensive family, and reading spiritual books. Above all, Ed was deeply committed to his Catholic faith, living with humility and devotion. Ed generously shared his time and talents with St. Vincent de Paul and various local parishes.
