It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glen William Hatfield on March 6, 2025, at the age of 84. With incredible strength and determination, he held on to reach this day—his 60th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Judith. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished friend, and a beloved grandfather adored by his grandchildren.
Glen graduated from Highland High School in Anderson, Indiana, and earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Ball State University. He was a proud 32nd Degree Mason, deeply committed to the values of brotherhood, integrity, and service.
Glen had a gift for storytelling, often casting himself as the good-natured star of his own misadventures, bringing laughter to all who listened. His humor, kindness, and warmth touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
He loved playing golf with his friends and took great pride in achieving his pilot’s license. Teaching and coaching were among his greatest passions—he spent 37 years as an educator in Decatur County schools, including 35 years at North Decatur High School, a place he dearly loved. His influence was so great that younger teachers and coaches at North Decatur affectionately nicknamed him “The Legend.”
Glen is survived by his wife, Judith; his children, Wade, Jill Buchanan, and Paige Davis; his sons-in-law, Troy Buchanan and Brian Davis; and his grandchildren, Clayton Buchanan, Claire Barnes, Brock Hatfield, Chase Hatfield, Taylor Hatfield, Jackson Davis, and Grant Davis. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Belle Hatfield; his brothers, Lowell and Larry Hatfield; and his sister, Nina Wright.
As per his wishes, a private family service will be held at a future date. In honor of his memory, those who wish may consider donating to their favorite charity or to North Decatur High School in Greensburg, Indiana, where Glen taught and coached for 35 years.
Though he is no longer with us, his stories—and the laughter they brought—will live on forever in our hearts.
