Very sad to learn of Mr. Hatfield's passing.  I graduated from North Decatur High School in 1973 and he was an inspiration to all us Chargers.
Having him as my Drivers Ed teacher taught me the values of driving the 'right' way.  Each driving day, we would stop at Stories so he could get a cup of coffee that he sipped, but mostly had it sitting on the dash of the car.  It was all drivers' goal to not cause his coffee to spill.  In addition to having Mr. Hatfield as a teacher, Mrs. Hatfield was my gym teacher for a few years.  She was outstanding as well.

To me, Mr. Hatfield was one who “paid it forward".  He wasn’t’ my teacher or coach, but I learned lessons in life between the lines of his interactions with others, where his fulcrum seemed to focus on encouragement; he gained my applause then &, has again, now.

He coached from the edge of the bench, eager to respond, but being respectful of the game, school & referees, but always supporting his players to leave it all in the court.

Expanding to his peers, he’d dart in, just before the bell, with a quick quip for Dave Horn, an equally engaging teacher & coach at NDHS; Mr. Hatfield routinely “nailed the proverbial game” with one-liners that left these parting friends laughing & beaming hearty grins. (Being out of ear-shot of the quick-quip he shared, I often wondered if he gathered responses to spin into his next yarn further down the hall?)

While later in life, I came to know her as "Judy" when I subbed at RCHS, I had, previously, appreciated Mrs. Hatfield as my inspiring teacher, coach & cheerleader sponsor at NDHS.  There, Mr. Hatfield’s visits to her class offered a sincerely subdued demeanor, & his exit always drew her demurely heartfelt smile.  It made me ponder, “Has he looped his way, delivering chuckles around the halls, room to room, saving her for last?”  Then the emotions confirmed, although she may have been last, she was, definitely, his favorite stop.

Both being genuinely talented in educating & coaching, then adding the treasures of his jovial enthusiasm & her assuring grace, they made the best of life together.  Indeed, his having honored Judy, with their 60th, sealed the poetic devotion they shared.

Now, & in the coming days, may joyful memories warm any chill of loss.  I pray Judy & their family feel the encouragement he threaded throughout his life to reach beyond his days here.  I have faith he still is your biggest fan.  Please, accept my sympathy while I remain in awe of Glen William Hatfield.

My deepest sympathy to Judith and the family. Mr.Hatfield was one of my favorite teachers. He was a story teller, yet I learned so much in his class. I have often thought of Mr. and Mrs. Hatfield through the years. There are those teachers that leave a mark on your life  forever,  that you will always remember,  and Mr. Hatfield  was one of those teachers. 
May you rest in Jesus arms Mr. Hatfield!

I am sad to learn of Mr.  Hatfield’s transition.  I was a student at North Decatur High School and I was blessed to have both Mr. & Mrs. Hatfield as teachers.  Mr. Hatfield taught me business, physical education and driver’s education; while, Mrs. Hatfield taught me to love English & Creative writing.  They both made a big difference in my life.  Prayers for the family & friends.

To the Hatfield family:  I will miss his welcoming smile and funny remarks.  (He was never at a loss for a witty comeback.)  His support and love for his family was evident, as  he rarely missed their MANY activities.  I’m so sad for all of you as he was such a great dad and husband.  Hugs to all of you!

My thoughts and prayers for Judith and the family.   Glen was my student driver teacher in 1980.   He could always make me smile.

Prayers for the family. I was a student of His in the 70s. He was my student driver teacher. I learned a lot from him. We always drove to his house to fill up his coffee mug. Alot of good stories. He was kind and funny.

So sorry for your loss.  
 Glen and Judith taught at New Point Hish School for the 1966-67 school year. My senior year and last year for New Point to have a high school.  She was my teacher and coach. My Dad was a teacher on the same staff.

Our sincerest sympathy to the whole Hatfield family at this difficult time!  May  your hearts be comforted by all your special memories of lessons learned & good times shared with this wonderful man!

Glen was one of the most remarkable individuals I had the privilege of knowing, and I am deeply grateful that he was my father-in-law. He imparted me with many invaluable lessons, and his influence will continue to shape my life and the lives of countless others in profound ways for generations to come. You will be deeply missed, Glen. I want to express my deepest gratitude for investing in me throughout your life and for welcoming me into your family nearly thirty years ago. I love you.
